Environment field assistant
Measuring and protecting the natural environment
What people in this work actually do
Collect water, air, soil and biodiversity samples and data, operate field instruments, record observations accurately, assist surveys and impact assessments, and support conservation and awareness work.
This may suit you if…
You like being outdoors, you are careful about recording things exactly, and you care about the condition of the place you live in.
Field work in heat, rain and difficult terrain. Much of the employment is project-based and therefore insecure. Report-writing and data entry take up more of the time than most people expect.
We show these because nobody else will.
What people get wrong about this
That there are no jobs in it. Pollution control boards, forestry, water and sanitation programmes, renewable energy projects and consultancies all need field staff.
What this looks like in a smaller town
Odisha's coast, forests and mineral belt generate real demand for environmental monitoring, and local knowledge of terrain and language is directly useful.
Ways into this work
There is almost always more than one route, and the cheapest is often perfectly respected.
